Underwater Cinematographer Sydney

Woody Spark, underwater cinematographer, filming Beneath the Bridge in Sydney

Woody Spark is a Sydney-based underwater cinematographer and Director of Photography, available for harbour, coastal, and studio productions across the city and surrounding NSW coastline. With over a decade of experience filming in marine environments worldwide, Woody brings that same technical precision and creative eye to local Sydney waters, from harbour dives to open-water shoots along the South Coast, as well as studio-based underwater production.

Sydney and NSW coastal work has taken Woody to dive sites including Chowder Bay and Cabbage Tree Bay in the harbour and northern beaches, Bare Island at La Perouse, and, further south, Bushrangers Bay and Montague Island on the NSW South Coast. These sites offer access to a wide range of local marine life, including weedy seadragons, grey nurse sharks, Port Jackson sharks, blue gropers, seahorses, octopus, cuttlefish, and nudibranchs.

Recent Sydney-based location work includes underwater camera work on Inside the Sydney Fish Market (SBS/BBC Studios), conservation filming for the Sydney Institute of Marine Science's There's a New Mooring in Town, and macro/behavioural work on Planet Wild's How Seahorses Make Babies.

Woody has worked on several scripted and feature productions filmed within Sydney, including underwater camera operating on NCIS: Sydney (Paramount+). Sydney studio work includes Underwater DOP credits on The Silent Ballet and Reborn (Artlist x Spencer Frost Films), as well as Underwater Emotions, winner of the 2025 Australian Cinematographer Society Award of Distinction and the 2024 ACS NSW Gold Award.

Woody shoots on RED, Sony, and Canon cinema systems using Gates and Nauticam underwater housings, and holds full commercial diving and safety qualifications for Sydney Harbour, open-water, and studio production work.
